2025 started with me turning 41 on the 3rd and with that a few goals. One being, getting back into the Columbus music scene. Held at the Goetchius House, this gorgeous 1839 historic gem created by builder and architect Richard Goetchius, you see the white brick and balconies with iron railings. We could hear and feel the electricity of the music, then I noticed my heartbeat start to match the drummer and got excited. I didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised.

Visually, walking in I first noticed the beautiful exposed brick and lighting. Audibly, the vocal stylings of the one Ms. Ivey Jones whose range, breath control, and versatility is beyond impressive. I have never heard Tennessee Whiskey sang the way she sang it. She made popular songs such as "Valerie", "Come together", and "Crazy by Ceelo Green" her own.

Then the heart beat of every band, Mr. Martell Hughes on drums. His ability to follow the vocalist, stay in the pocket, be a part of the team and yet be memorable is something I have not seen in a long time.

Nick Oakley on keys made it seem so effortless yet soul connecting. His ability to flow in and out of different musical styles is as fluid as liquid. Noah has a gift for making his guitar cry in a way that would give Jimi Hendrix a reason to listen. I was invited by CJS member and musician Miguel Juarez. An absolute amazing and resilient musician and individual. His calming energy, strength, and perseverance are qualities to emulate.

Then Insert the incomparable, GoRickeyGo! Whose stage presence, showmanship, and connection to his instrument as an extension of himself is like no other. His energy was contagious, and his love for music is evident in that his instrument is an extension of himself. He was a highlight of the show who disappeared almost as fast as he appeared. Dope Performer and musician. Although he never got on the mic, he gave Prince!

This is a weekly event with guest soloists and musicians. I am looking forward to attending the next event. Check out Columbus Jazz Society for events and performances.
